Publishing cadence is a staffing problem

A small editorial desk can produce good work or produce it frequently, and the constraint is almost never talent. It is the volume of non-writing that surrounds each piece: formatting, tagging, laying out, building the email, resizing for social, scheduling everything, and then measuring whether any of it landed. The writing is the short part of the day.

Automating that surrounding work is where AI earns its place in publishing, and it is a considerably less glamorous claim than automating the writing. Drafting and tagging get a first pass from the model, an editor approves or rewrites, and everything downstream — web publication, the email edition, social scheduling — happens from the approved piece without anyone rebuilding it three times in three formats.

The approval chain is the load-bearing part. Anything AI-generated enters as a draft with a named human between it and publication, because the alternative is a publication whose voice drifts and whose facts nobody checked. The leverage comes from removing production work, not from removing editorial judgement, and a system designed the other way round produces volume that damages the masthead.

Around that sits what a publication actually needs to operate: web publishing with SEO controls, embedded video, paywall and membership tiers, reader analytics tied to conversion, and multi-publication management for desks running more than one title.

What changes

The day-to-day, before and after Magazine Automation

Three frictions this replaces — described in the terms you'd recognise from your own week.

Today

Producing one issue takes weeks of layout and chasing

With Magazine Automation

The AI builder assembles each edition, video included, from your briefs — editors approve rather than lay out pages.

Today

The issue ships, then someone rebuilds it for email

With Magazine Automation

Web, newsletter, and social all publish from the same edition, so distribution becomes a scheduling decision, not a second production job.

Today

No one can tell which stories earn subscriptions

With Magazine Automation

Reader analytics tie what's read and shared to conversions, so the editorial calendar is set by evidence instead of instinct.

In practice

Where it earns its keep

AI drafts and tags each piece, editors approve, and distribution to email and social goes out automatically — enough leverage for a small desk to run a daily edition.

Built for

Who's in it every day

The three seats Magazine Automation is designed around.

Editor-in-chief

Opens it to move drafts through the approval chain, decide what leads the edition, and sign off before anything goes public.

Marketing lead

Builds the newsletter off the edition, schedules the social posts, and watches which pieces convert readers into paying members.

Content producer

Feeds briefs and source material to the AI builder, then shapes the generated edition and its video before handing it to review.

Getting started

How we get you live

  1. Set up the publication

Your brand, sections, and publication structure go in first — including any additional titles you run from the same workspace.

  2. Editorial roles

Writers, editors, and approvers get their own permissions, and the approval chain is defined so nothing publishes without a human signing off.

  3. First AI edition

You feed in content and a brief, the builder produces a full edition with video, and editors correct it before it ships.

  4. Wire up distribution

Web publishing, email campaigns, and social channels connect to the edition, with paywall tiers set for whatever stays behind membership.

FAQ

Magazine Automation, answered

Not seeing your question?

Tell us how you run today and we'll answer specifically.

No. The workflow is deliberately human-in-the-loop: the builder drafts and tags, then the edition moves through assignment, review, and approval before it goes anywhere. You define the approval chain and who sits in it. If you wanted a one-click auto-publish path, this platform isn't built that way, by design.
